Short stories during lock down

National Coordinator Aliya Danzeisen ran a short stories study during level four lock down. This was offered daily over zoom. Each story was discussed over two nights, and the sessions included reading, techniques, questions and discussions.

Mental health talks

The New Zealand psychologist collective (NZMPC) hosted two consecutive webinars during lock down focused on fostering wellbeing for youth. The topic discussed was balance and barakah and the body. The webinars were offered during two 1.5-hour sessions throughout the week.

Wellbeing checks

IWCNZ is offering well being daily phone call checks for sisters who are currently in isolation.

Food parcel delivery

IWCNZ offered food parcel delivery support during the lock down across Auckland and Waikato for families who were affected by the restrictions in place. Each food parcel was dropped weekly on a Sunday tailored to each family’s needs.

Iftar nights

IWCNZ is hosting two iftar nights during Ramadan. The 9th and the 16th of April. The 9th will be an iftar for 19–30-year-olds, and the 16th for 12–18-year-olds. Ramadan Décor

IWCNZ currently has a competition running for all ages to submit their home-made Ramadan décor. The items will be judged on Originality and creativity, Overall quality of Item and the reflection of Ramadan theme. The three winners will then win a gift priced at $50.00 per person.

Muslimah Mamas group

The IWCNZ has created a group inviting all mothers to join the Muslimah Mama’s group. This network has been created for Muslim mothers who would like to learn more about raising and educating children within the correct Islamic lifestyle and upbringing. Online Trivia night

IWCNZ Held an online trivia night, open to all ages. The topics consisted of Islamic Knowledge, questions from the Quran, Geography, Riddles, Blast from the past and Animals. There were three winners who each won a $50.00 gift card.

Organisation of the Waikato Muslim Association (WOWMA) held a Winter Escape for 50 adult Muslimah in early-July at Mount Ruapehu. Youth Iftar

Eighty-six Auckland Muslimah youth broke fast together at IWCNZ’s invitation during Ramadan. The event, which was hosted at Des Traditions, allowed for new connections and sisterhood. At the function, IWCNZ executive offered its youth commitment, outlined our goals and shared upcoming events. Faith, friendship, fun and fulfilment defined the evening.
