What hate feels like now – At National Security Conference

In an effort to meet one of the recommendations of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Terrorist Attack on Christchurch Masjidain, the Government hosted in June, its first public-facing Counter-Terrorism event. The purpose of the hui, which is intended to go forward as an annual event, is to bring together relevant central and local government agencies, communities, civil society, the private sector, and researchers in order to build more positives relationships and to share and develop a better understanding of countering violent extremism and terrorism. The hui consisted of a series of panels and workshops. Approximately 300 attendees participated over the three days sharing their expertise and knowledge. IWCNZ opened the second day of panels, with a session called– “What hate feels like now”. Six Muslimah shared their experiences with a range of hateful incidents with the filled venue to ensure those in attendance were more aware of the dynamics and challenges faced by our community both in the public, but also when dealing with the public service and government officials.
